The Benedictine University women's basketball team was unable to streak past Aurora on the road Wednesday night, suffering an 81-72 loss to one of the conference front runners.
Benedictine jumped out to an early advantage, scoring the first five points of the game, all from
Hailey Bachmann, who had a career day.
Olympia Kokkines put Benedictine ahead by eight at 12-4 with 2:45 left in the first and Bachmann followed with another three to make the score 15-4. Aurora closed the opening quarter on a 9-2 run, drawing within 17-13. Aurora took the lead for the first time with 4:31 left in the opening half and used a 10-0 run moments later to take the lead for good. Benedictine pulled within two early in the third but the hosts were able to push the lead out to 15 and hold on for the victory.
Bachmann was one of three players in double figures, finishing with a career best 21 points. The freshman finished 8-of-14 from the field and grabbed six rebounds before fouling out.
Makenzie Carroll logged 14 with
Allison Jarvis adding 10. Benedictine finished the game shooting 39.7 percent and scored 40 points in the paint. Â
Benedictine (9-9, 5-4 NACC) will welcome Lakeland on Saturday afternoon.
