The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team opened the home portion of the schedule by tangling with a regional power, Illinois Wesleyan, suffering a 13-9 loss.
Following a difficult start, Benedictine put together an impressive second quarter to tie the score headed into the half at 6-6.
Aiden Elliott opened the scoring in the first quarter before Illinois Wesleyan scored five in a row.
Dylan Langley capped off the second quarter run with just over six minutes remaining in the half as Benedictine outscored the guests 4-0. Illinois Wesleyan scored the first two goals following halftime and did not trail again.
AJ Smerz brought Benedictine within 8-7 at the end of the third before the visitors pulled away.
Elliott scored four times in the defeat. Smerz and Langley both tallied two.
Colin Doyle stopped 13 shots in net.
Benedictine (0-2) will host Calvin on Friday afternoon.
