The Benedictine University men's basketball team hit the road on Saturday afternoon and suffered an 81-53 defeat at the hands of the eighth-ranked team in the nation, Wisconsin Lutheran.
Benedictine hung close for most of the first half. Wisconsin Lutheran led by just three points at 30-27 with 5:12 left in the first half following a basket by
Patrick Mayfield. The hosts used an 8-1 run to open a double-digit advantage and led 40-30 at the break. Wisconsin Lutheran scored the first seven of the second half to pull away, leading by as many as 31.
Benedictine made just nine field goals in the second half, shooting 26 percent. For the game, Benedictine shot 33.3 percent. Just one player reached double figures,
Ryan Tucker, who finished with 13.
Aidan Werth reeled in seven rebounds.
Benedictine (8-14, 7-8 NACC) hosts Illinois Tech on Wednesday night in a key conference game.
