The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team erased an early deficit but a pair of late goals sent the University of Dubuque to a 10-9 win in double overtime in the first Julien-Hatch game on Wednesday night.
Dubuque scored the first two goals of the game just seconds apart to lead 2-0. Benedictine came back to tie the game and held a 4-3 lead early in the second on a goal from
Dylan Skura. Dubuque responded with four straight to lead 7-4 early in the third. Benedictine was able to rip off five in a row to lead 9-7.
Robert Schroeder scored the first of the goals.
Dylan Langley scored the equalizer and AJ Amerz struck with just over two minutes remaining in the third to put Benedictine ahead after outscoring the guests 4-1 in the third. Dubuque tied the game with two goals in the final three minutes including the game-tying marker with just seven seconds left. It took until double overtime for either team to score but Dubuque posted the game-winner in the closing seconds again.
Benedictine put 20 shots on target and won 15 faceoffs. Skura scored three times. Schroeder added a pair.
Jack Whalon won 15 faceoffs.
Colin Doyle made several spectacular saves and finished with 16 in the loss.
Benedictine (1-8, 0-4 NACC) will welcome Edgewood on Saturday afternoon.
