For the second time in three days, the Benedictine University women's tennis squad has traveled to River Forest and come home with a big Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) win.
On Thursday afternoon, the Eagles defeated Dominican University, 6-3, to even their overall record at 4-4 and improve to 4-2 in the NAC race. On Tuesday, the Eagles played just up the block at Concordia University Chicago and won there, 5-4.
Benedictine swept the Nos. 1-4 singles matches, as well as the first two doubles flights to secure the Dominican win.
Junior
Ewelina Stachulak battled back at the No. 1 match to win in three sets. Stachulak lost the opening set, 6-3, before clawing back for successive 6-3, 6-4 wins. Senior
Lisa Carrillo and newcomer
Vivianna Iway both won in straight sets at the No. 2 and No. 3 slots, as did No. 4 player, junior
Andrea Oliva.
Iway and Oliva are both 5-1 in the NAC at their respective flights and sport overall records of 5-3, as well.
In doubles, the tandem of Stachulak and Carrillo continued to impress as one of the top duos in the NAC, winning 8-5 over DU. The tandem improved its 2009 record to 5-1 in the NAC with the win.
No. 2 doubles belonged to BU's Oliva and
Leigh Martino, who won 8-2 to give the Eagles the final 6-3 match margin of victory.
