The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference revealed its women's tennis awards for the 2014 season on Wednesday morning, and three different individuals received honors. Freshman
Andrea Goyao, junior
Micah Goyao, and senior
Kam Haifleigh all were named All-NACC singles players, and the duo of
Andrea Goyao and Haifleigh received All-NAC doubles honors.
Â
Andrea Goyao's start to her freshman season was stellar. Playing out of the top singles spot in all 11 of the team's matches, the North Aurora native recorded a 9-2 record. In NACC matches, she was 9-1, with her only loss coming against unbeaten Edgewood College and NACC Player of the Year Morgan Wilson.
Â
Much like her sister,
Micah Goyao also recorded a strong Fall portion of the season. After recording a 7-3 conference record last season,
Micah Goyao played out of the third singles spot this Fall and finished with a 9-2 overall record. Just like Andrea, Micah also had a 9-1 conference record.
Â
Haifleigh caps off her BenU athletic career with an All-NACC honor for the second straight season. A senior captain, the Michigan product played out of the second singles spot, finishing with an 8-3 overall and 8-2 conference record. Haifleigh has All-NACC awards for two different sports, as she now has two All-NACC tennis awards and an NACC All-Sportsmanship award for women's basketball.
Â
As a pairing,
Andrea Goyao and
Kam Haifleigh anchored BenU's doubles tandems all Fall season. Playing as the team's top duo, the freshman and senior finished with an 8-2 NACC and overall record. The two finished the Fall season strong, winning the last five matches on the schedule.
Â
"I'm happy for our girls," said Head Coach
Jonathon Schmidt. "I feel they did a great job putting in the work, which is reflected in the awards each one received. Now, we have to keep the same focus going into the Spring season, which will allow us to finish as strong as possible in the conference."
Â
The NACC Tournament gets underway in Late April, and the Eagles have qualified as the tournament's fourth seed. BenU will host Dominican University at the Vaughan Athletic Center in Aurora on April 28 in the First Round. Prior to the tournament, the Eagles have a match scheduled against Quincy University for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 2, which will also take place at the Vaughan Athletic Center.
