The Benedictine University tennis team has one game remaining in the Fall portion of the season. On Saturday, the Eagles will play a non-conference matchup at North Central College at 2:00 p.m.
Already locked in as the fourth seed in the Spring's Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament, Benedictine (7-3) downed Lakeland College 9-0 in the NACC's regular season finale last Saturday.
Andrea Goyao and
Micah Goyao have combined to go 16-2 this season in singles matches this season, and the performances of the two sisters has propelled BenU to a 39-15 overall singles record. Benedictine has also gone 17-10 in doubles, with the top pairing of
Andrea Goyao and
Kam Haifleigh going 7-2.
Out of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, North Central has a 6-3 overall record on the season. Two of the Cardinals' wins have come against NACC schools, as the team both defeated both Aurora University and Dominican University 9-0. Benedictine split with Aurora and Dominican (defeated Dominican 7-2, lost to Aurora 6-3), who both finished with 7-3 NACC marks. Before opposing BenU, North Central will square off against Elmhurst College on Wednesday.
Benedictine and North Central have meet a few times in recent years, with NCC taking all the matchups. The Cardinals defeated BenU in 2007, 2010, 2011, and 2012, winning the most recent matchup 7-1. Haifleigh won her singles match in the defeat, coming away with a 7-5, 6-1 victory in the fourth spot.
