The Benedictine University tennis team competed in the opening round of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament on Tuesday as the bracket's fourth seed. Against fifth-seeded Dominican University, the Eagles won 5-2, advancing to the tournament's semifinals on Saturday.
Benedictine took three of the four singles matches that were played before BenU reached the deciding five-win mark, with
Andrea Goyao,
Micah Goyao, and
Elizabeth Skaggs all coming out victorious.
Andrea Goyao won 6-0, 6-0 in the first spot, while
Micah Goyao (second spot) and Skaggs (sixth spot) each won 6-0, 6-2.
The Eagles also took two of three doubles matches. In the first spot, the Goyao sisters took down the Stars 8-3.
Bhavana Movva and
Alena Moro won the second doubles match 8-2.
BenU will head north on Saturday, as the semifinal and final rounds of the NACC Tournament will take place at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin. BenU will oppose top-seeded Edgewood College at 2:00 p.m. If BenU was to win, the NACC Tournament Championship takes place one hour after the completion of both semifinal matches.
