Men's Basketball 11/21/2010 5:29:05 PM Eagles Sneak Past Beloit BOX SCORE LISLE, Ill. – Beloit College took a one point lead with 39 seconds remaining in the game but Benedictine's Brian Genslinger scored a layup on a pass from Nate Green to win 70-69 over the Buccaneers on Sunday night in non-conference action. Benedictine (2-1) went on a 7-0 run early on in the first half that included a layup from Terry Licht and a three-pointer by Dario Jokic. Jerrell Tribble hit a three with just over a minute remaining to send the Eagles into the locker room up by ten at the half. Benedictine shot 48.6 percent from the field (17-for-25) while Beloit (0-1) was 13-for-29 (44.8 percent). The Eagles took their biggest lead of the game when AJ Brown put BenU up by 14 just four minutes into the second half and kept up a ten-point lead for the beginning of the half. Back-to-back Buccaneer layups from Travis Towns and David Bremner narrowed the Eagle lead to just six. Cameron Snelling's three pointer with just over three minutes to go in the game gave the Eagles an eight point lead but Beloit went on a 7-0 run to take a 69-68 lead with just 39 seconds remaining in the game. Beloit had the chance to take a three-point lead but two missed free throws from Grant Henrickson kept the Eagles alive and led to Genslinger's game winning basket with just 18 seconds remaining. Beloit took three shots in the final 10 seconds but could not connect as BenU went on to win their second straight game. Green had a game high 18 points for the Eagles and eight assists while Licht scored 13 points, and had a game high nine rebounds and three blocks. Snelling was the only other Eagle to score in double figures with 11 points and also had three steals. Towns led Beloit with a game high 32 points. Beloit out-rebounded the Eagles 41-30 but had 15 turnovers compared to Benedictine's nine. As a team, BenU was 25-for-58 from the field (43.1 percent) while Beloit was 24-for-55) (43.6 percent). The Eagles are back in action this Tuesday when they travel to Lewis University for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.Print Friendly Version
