Men's Hoops Opens NAC Slate with OT Loss

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Benedictine University Men's Basketball team opened play in the Northern Athletics Conference by rallying from a 13-point second half deficit but suffered a 76-71 overtime defeat at MSOE Tuesday evening.

The Eagles netted the game's first basket to go up 2-0, but did not lead again until just under two minutes remained in the contest. The Raiders held a 28-22 edge at the half. MSOE opened the second half with a 9-2 run to leap to a 37-24 lead with 13:50 left in the game.

Nate Green, who led all scorers in the game with a season high 23 points, whittled the lead under double digits with a three-point play midway through the frame and Alex Edmondson buried a three moments later to push the Eagles to within 42-36.

Down five with 4:29 to play, Benedictine embarked on an 8-0 run to nab a 57-54 lead with 1:41 to play. Dario Jokic opened the run with a triple and Nate Green closed it with a layup off of a steal, matching the feat of Cameron Snelling moments earlier.

MSOE responded to take a 60-59 lead with :25 remaining when Austin Meier completed a three-point play with a free throw. Benedictine forced overtime as Terry Licht split a pair of free throws with :14 to play in regulation.

The hosts scored the first six points of the extra session to stake a 66-60 edge and continued to lead by six with 1:46 left. Nate Green scored six straight points to even things at 71 with :58 to play, but the Eagles failed to rattle off a shot as MSOE scored five straight and forced three turnovers to tally the win.

Cameron Snelling contributed 19 points for Benedictine (2-3, 0-1). Austin Meier paced the unbeaten Raiders (6-0, 1-0) with a double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Benedictine travels again this weekend, facing Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 4:15 p.m.
