Men's Basketball 12/20/2010 9:47:00 PM Eagles Defeat NAC Preseason Favorites BOX SCORE LISLE, Ill. – The Benedictine University men's basketball team used a 40-26 halftime lead to defeat Concordia University-Chicago 78-74 in Northern Athletics Conference action on Monday night in the Dan and Ada Rice Center. The Eagles (4-4, 2-2) started off strong, taking a seven point lead in the first four minutes of action with three-pointers from Dario Jokic, Jerrell Tribble and Cameron Snelling. Benedictine extended their lead to as many as 17 during the half, shooting 44.1 percent from the field (15-for-34) and 40.0 percent from behind the arc (6-for-15). Jokic had four three's for 12 points while Terry Licht had three blocks. The Eagles kept a double-figure lead for most of the first half. With :39 on the clock and the Eagles leading by 12, Concordia's Ryan Tyszkiewicz hit a three followed by another three from Al Kahlfeldt with just :13 remaining in the game. The Eagles regained possession after a CUC foul and Brian Genslinger hit both of his free throw shots. The Cougars would score with less than one second remaining but it wasn't enough as BenU went on to take the 78-74 victory. Jokic led all players in scoring with 18 points, going 6-for-14 from behind the arc. Nate Green and Tribble each had 13 points with Tribble also tallying a game high four steals. Snelling led the Eagles with seven rebounds and also had nine points while Licht and AJ Brown had nine points. As a team, the Eagles shot 42.6 percent from the field (23-for-54) while Concordia-Chicago was 52.6 percent from the floor (30-for-57). The Cougars out-rebounded BenU 42-30 but the Eagles forced 22 CUC turnovers and had eight steals. The men's basketball team is back in action on Wednesday, December 22 when they host North Central College at 7:00 p.m. in the Rice Center.Print Friendly Version
