MEQUON, Wis. – Despite out-rebounding Concordia University-Wisconsin 41-28, the Benedictine University men's basketball team dropped their second straight Northern Athletics Conference game, 65-59, on Saturday afternoon in the John Buck Field House.
The Eagles (2-4, 0-2) took a six-point lead to start the game with three straight layups from
Cameron Snelling. The Falcons (5-1, 3-0) answered right back to tie the game at eight just five minutes into the first half. The lead would change five more times during the first half and a dunk from
Brian Genslinger sent the Eagles into the locker room at halftime down by one, 31-32.
Benedictine battled back in the second half and took a five-point lead with 12 minutes remaining after a three-pointer from
Terry Licht. The Eagles expanded their lead to as many as 11 with layups from Licht and
Nate Green, but CUW did not give up and went on a 12-0 run that lasted four minutes to go up 58-54 with just under two minutes left.
A three-pointer from Licht cut the Eagles deficit to three with :30 remaining but it wasn't enough as CUW went on to remain undefeated in NAC action with a 65-59 victory.
Snelling led all players with 22 points and 11 rebounds, tallying his first double-double of the season. Licht was the only other Eagle to score in double-figures with 10 points.
As a team, Benedictine was 24-for-54 from the field (44.4 percent) and 6-for-20 from behind the arc (30.0 percent). The Eagles did have 21 turnovers compared to the Falcons eight.
Concordia-Wisconsin had three players score in double-figures and leading the team was Edward Newton-Kemp with 18 points. The Falcons were 24-for-57 from the field (42.1 percent), 4-for-16 from the three-point line (25.0 percent) and were 13-for-18 from the free-throw line (72.2 percent).
Benedictine is back in action next weekend when they host Edgewood College at 4:15 p.m. in the Rice Center.
