Eagles Hold Off Wisconsin Lutheran for Home Win and Series Sweep

Lisle, Illinois - The Benedictine University Men's Basketball team scored a season sweep of Wisconsin Lutheran, picking up a 91-84 victory in a high-scoring affair on Saturday.

Benedictine led from the outset and never trailed, opening a 10-point advantage at 14-4 with 15:34 to play when Dan Klecan (Palos Hills, Ill.) buried a three. Klecan hit two threes and scored 10 of the first 14 points for the Eagles. The Eagles led by 14 at 18-4, but Wisconsin Lutheran embarked on a 14-0 run to knot the score with 12:20 left in the half. 

Benedictine opened a 15-0 run to respod with a Mike Bumber (Plainfield, Ill.) trey. Cameron Snelling (South Holland, Ill.) capped the run with a layup with 8:32 to play, putting the Eagles up 33-18. Benedictine stretched the lead to as many as 19 points but Wisconsin Lutheran closed within 49-41 at the half. The Eagles shot 58.8 percent in the opening 20 minutes.

The second half featured more of the same as Benedictine countered every run by the visitors. Wisconsin Lutheran whittled the lead to five at 52-47 with 17:15 left and pulled within four at 86-82 with 1:50 to go, but could not overcome the Eagles.

Kyle Madson tallied a game high 30 points for Wisconsin Lutheran (8-13, 7-7 NAC). Kaleb Buch contributed 24 off the bench in the losing effort.

Starting his final home game, Rob Bridgeman (Oak Lawn, Ill.)paced the Eagles with 26 points, a season high total. Four other players crossed into double digits. Dan Klecan netted 14 despite battling foul trouble, and Cameron Snelling posted his second consecutive double-double with 1 points and 12 boards. Not to be outdone, Jerrell Tribble (Chicago, Ill.) posted a double-double as well, scoring 11 and hauling in 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Michael Fahey (Chicago, Ill.) netted 10 in the final home game of his career as well.

Benedictine (13-10, 7-8 NAC) will play at Aurora on Tuesday night in a 7:00 p.m. tilt.
