LISLE, Ill. - Both Benedictine University Basketball teams will be at home on Saturday afternoon taking part in the Northern Athletics Conference North/South Challenge. The women will open the doubleheader by facing Lakeland College at 2:00 p.m. with the men to follow against Marian University at 4:15.
Benedictine's women's team is unbeaten on the new Rice Center floor at 8-0. The Eagles moonsaulted to a tie for second place in the South Division by winning seven of their final eight games and eight of 10. At 11-7, Benedictine tied with Alverno College, but earned the higher seed by virtue of sweeping the season series. The Eagles are 13-10 overall and will welcome Lakeland College to the Rice Center at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Lakeland finished at 13-4 in the North Division, earning the second slot with a 72-66 upset of North Champion Concordia Wisconsin on the road last night. The Muskies own an overall record of 18-6 and upended the Eagles 65-55 in Sheboygan, Wis. on December 5. Karyan Conerty led Benedictine with 14 points in the loss while KC Blahnik paced Lakeland with 14 as well.
The game will serve as a precursor for the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament. Benedictine will be at home on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., opening postseason play as the tournament's fourth overall seed.
The Benedictine men will follow the women by concluding their season in hosting Marian University at 4:15 p.m. Marian placed fifth in the North Division by going 6-10 in NAC play. The Sabres own an overall record of 9-15 and defeated the Eagles on January 9 in Fond du Lac, Wis. by a score of 76-62. Logan Rankin scored a game high 22 points for Marian in the contest. Benedictine shot just 29.4 percent from the floor in the loss.
Benedictine did not qualify for the postseason tournament but owns a winning record at 13-11. The Eagles captured fifth in the South Division with a NAC record of 7-9.
