LISLE, Ill. – The Benedictine University women's tennis team remained undefeated in Northern Athletics Conference action over the weekend, defeating Rockford College 9-0 and then beating Edgewood College in a close 5-4 match.
Against Rockford (0-7, 0-7 NAC), all three doubles teams were victorious including the No. 3 doubles team of
Andrea Oliva and
Lina Savickas, defeating Rockford, 8-0.
All of the Eagles (7-3, 7-0 NAC) singles players won in straight sets, including No. 1 singles
MaryClare Loughery who defeated Alyssa Filmore 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 singles
Tiffany Wakim defeated Noi Bounleutay 6-0, 6-0 while
Ewelina Stachulak defeated Mariana Rosas 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
The match against Edgewood (9-4, 8-1 NAC) came down to the wire as both teams entered the match undefeated in conference action. Benedictine was down 1-2 after doubles play with Loughery and Wakim winning at the No. 1 spot in a close 8-6 set.
In singles play, Loughery defeated Hannah Pincsak in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. Stachulak and Oliva were also victorious at No. 3 and No. 4 singles and No. 5 Savickas defeated Brittany Storhoff 7-5, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4 to give the Eagles the 5-4 victory. The win was the first time the Eagles have defeated Edgewood since joining the NAC.
Women's tennis is back in action on Wednesday, September 22 when they travel to Aurora University for a 3:00 p.m. match.
