MILWAUKEE, Wis. –
Terry Licht scored a game and season high 21 points and six Eagles scored in double-figures to help the Benedictine University men's basketball team defeat Wisconsin Lutheran College, 84-69, on Saturday afternoon at the Recreation Complex.
The Eagles (8-5, 3-2) jumped out to an early 15-11 lead with a three-pointer by
Dario Jokic and never looked back. Benedictine made six three's in the first half, including one from Licht to put BenU up 29-17 with eight minutes remaining.
The Warriors (2-10, 1-3) cut their deficit to nine with less than four minutes left but three straight three-pointers from Licht gave the Eagles a 28-44 halftime advantage.
Benedictine maintained their lead in the second half, despite WLC scoring 19 points in the first seven minutes, cutting their deficit to just seven points. Three's from Jokic and Licht regained the Eagles double-figure lead and the Eagle offensive dominance continued, defeating the Warriors 84-69.
Licht led all players with a season high 21 points, going 6-for-10 from the field and five-for-8 from behind the arc and also grabbed eight rebounds.
Cameron Snelling captured his fifth double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Nate Green also collected a double-double with 12 points and a season high 10 assists while
Jerrell Tribble and Jokic each scored 11 points.
As a team, BenU was 30-for-55 from the floor (54.5 percent) and out-rebounded the Warriors 40-28.
Wisconsin Lutheran was led by DJ Cupertino and Alex Merbach who both scored 17 points.
Benedictine is back in action Wednesday, January 12 when they host Rockford College at 7:00 p.m. in the Rice Center.
