NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Benedictine women's tennis team opened up the 2011 season against Northern Athletics Conference opponents Wisconsin Lutheran College and Alverno College. The Eagles fell 8-1 to WLC and lost a nail-biter to AC, 5-4.

Benedictine (0-2) lost all three doubles matches to Wisconsin Lutheran. In singles, Neha Shukla defeated Erin Mathiak (4-6, 6-3, 11-9) at the No. 6 spot.

Against Alverno, the Eagles won two of their doubles matches including an 8-4 win for Vivianna Iway and Shukla at No. 2 while Sanika Tolia and Ashley Shall won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Lina Savickas won at No. 1 doubles (6-3, 6-4) and Nicole Choinka defeated Lin Liu (6-2, 6-4) at No. 4.

Women's tennis is back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they host North Central College at 3:00 p.m.
