Softball Drops Two

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Benedictine University softball team lost both of their games on Wednesday morning. After a 9-1 loss to University of Wisconsin-Superior, the Eagles dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to No. 3 Eastern Connecticut State.

After scoring three runs in the second inning, University of Wisconsin-Superior tallied two more in the third and two in the fifth to take an 8-1 lead. The Eagles (3-5) scored their only run of the innning in the second when Alex Daviera doubled to left center and was driven in by Nikki Powers who also had a double to left field.

Wisconsin-Superior tallied one more run in the seventh inning to take home the 9-1 victory. In 3.1 innings, Brittany Adcox allowed eight hits and had two strikeouts while Eryn Pondo pitched in relief and also had two strikeouts in 3.2 innings.

In the second game, BenU held No. 3 Eastern Connecticut State scoreless through four innings. Benedictine tallied three runs in the fifth inning, two of those runs off the bat of Kelly Mieszala who doubled to left center, scoring Pondo and Brittany Wolski. A single from Adcox would put the Eagles up 3-0. ECSU would tally two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame for a close 3-2 game.

In the sixth, the Eagles were held scoreless but ECSU tallied two runs off of two hits and two Benedictine errors and would go on for the 4-3 win.

In five innings, Kelly Loy allowed just four hits and two earned runs with two strikeouts.

The Eagles are back in action for their final two games of their spring break trip. Benedictine will face Babson College at 8:00 am (CST) and Trinity College at 10:00 am (CST).
