The Benedictine University Women's Tennis team lost their first match of the season to Lake Forest College on Thursday night, as the Eagles dropped an 8-0 decision to the Foresters. The third singles match between
Antoinette Goyao and Lake Forest's Gracie Mullins was not completed due to darkness.

"This was a tough match.  Lake Forest is a very, very good team,” said Head Coach Jonathan Teune. “I feel it was a nice opportunity for us to be tested by one of the better teams in the area.  We have a lot of work to do in the days ahead, but I'm proud of our girls".

Despite the 8-0 sweep, BenU still saw some promising performances. First singles player
Vivianna Iway and No. 2 singles player and team captain
Lina Savickas each dropped their sets 6-1, 6-2. The most competitive singles match of the day came from No.5 singles player
Kam Haifleigh, as she fell 6-3, 7-5 in her first career BenU Tennis match.

The Eagles lost all three doubles matches, but kept the second and third matches close. Benedictine's second doubles team of Goyao and
Bhavana Movva dropped their match 8-3, while the third doubles team of
Anna Savio and
Emily Theisen dropped their match 8-5.

It was the first set of matches on the year for both teams, as BenU dropped to 0-1 while Lake Forest moved to 1-0. The Eagles will take the court next this Saturday, Sept. 1 when they take on Northern Athletics Conference foes Wisconsin Lutheran and Alverno in home matches at the Aurora Vaughn Center.
