The Benedictine University tennis team was able to win one of two Northern Athletics Conference games on Saturday's road trip: defeating Rockford and falling to Edgewood.
In the morning, the Eagles were able to defeat Rockford (0-9, 0-9 NAC) by a score of 8-1. Benedictine won five out of the six singles matches, with
Bhavana Movva and
Antoinette Goyao winning their matches in 6-0, 6-0 fashion.
After that, the Eagles won all three doubles matches.
Kam Haifleigh and
Vivianna Iway won 8-0 in the second doubles match, while Goyao and
Emily Theisen won 8-0 in the third match.
Benedictine traveled to Madison Wis. to face the NAC's top team in Edgewood College. Edgewood (12-1. 11-0) clinched an undefeated NAC season and fifth straight NAC title with a 9-0 win.
Despite the loss, Movva, Haifleigh, Goyao and
Isabella LeBlanc all were able to keep their singles matches close, with LeBlanc's going to a third set.
Up next for Benedictine is a trip to nearby North Central College on October 2nd at 4:00 p.m. The eagles currently sit at sixth place in the NAC conference, the last seed eligible for NAC tournament play. If they are able to maintain a hold on that spot, the NAC tournament begins on Saturday, October 6.
