LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team rolled to their first conference victory of the season by scoring an 87-64 win on Thursday night.
Michael Woolf buried a three-pointer with 15:11 to play in the first half to put Benedictine ahead for good. The three was the first of 11 makes on the night and opened an 8-0 run.
Tim McGinty knocked down a three with 6:14 remaining in the half to ignite a 12-3 run which saw the lead swell to 15 points at 41-26. Benedictine held a 51-30 lead at the break, shooting 55.6 percent from the floor.
The lead quickly balooned to 23 points at the start of the second half following a pair of free throws from
Tahron Harvey. Concordia Chicago chipped away to pull within 13 points with 12:50 to play, but Benedictine quickly scored seven straight with buckets from three different individuals to move ahead 70-50. Just once in the final 10 minutes were the visitors able to pull within 20 points.
Four players crossed into double figures for Benedictine led by 21 from McGinty. Woolf added 16 to go along with 10 rebounds.
Tim Reamer notched 15 with Harvey totaling 10. Benedictine finished the game shooting 52.4 percent. The Eagles held a commanding 45-28 advantage on the glass.
Benedictine (2-5, 1-2) will host Concordia University-Wisconsin on Saturday evening.
