MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team took down Wisconsin Lutheran 77-61 on the road Saturday, sweeping the season series behind a 29-point burst from
Tim McGinty.
Benedictine overcame an early eight-point deficit. Trailing 22-14 just past the midpoint of the first, the Eagles opened a 14-0 run with a three from
Jon Bock.
Alex Edmondson hit a three with 6:16 remaining in the half to put Benedictine ahead 23-22. The run was completed on another Edmondson three, making the advantage 28-22. The Eagles did not trail again the remainder of the contest, holding down a 35-32 lead at the break.
An early three from the hosts evened the game in the second half, but Benedictine scored eight straight to again take command.
Michael Woolf opened the run with a jumper and
Tim McGinty knocked down a three to cap the run. McGinty buried another triple moments later to make the lead 46-37. The margin grew to 14 points and Wisconsin Lutheran could pull no closer than nine the rest of the way.
Benedictine connected on 12 threes and 25 free throws in the contest. McGinty was a perfect 5-of-5 from three-point range on the way to 29 points. Edmondson also connected on 15 points, drilling five three-pointers. The contest featured just 14 turnovers and saw two ties and four lead changes.
Benedictine (8-10, 6-7 NACC) travels to Concordia Chicago on Tuesday night.
