LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team shot 60 percent in the second half to record a 71-66 win over Edgewood College on Thursday night in a makeup game from February 1.
Following a tight start to the contest, Edgewood was able to open a double figure lead. The visitors used a 15-4 run to open a 26-16 lead with 6:22 to play in the first. Benedictine closed to within three points late in the frame but was down 35-29 at the intermission. Edgewood shot 53.8 percent from the floor in a half that featured three ties and four lead changes.
Benedictine was able to even the game with 15:04 left when
Michael Blaszczyk hit a jumper. Benedictine built a five-point lead with a three from
Michael Woolf at the 11:42 mark. Edgewood evened the game with 5:57 left before a 9-0 run put Benedictine ahead for good.
Tyler Thurston opened the run with a layup and Woolf hit a jumper to finish the run with 3:09 remaining, making the score 64-55. Edgewood chipped away, pulling within two points at 64-62 with just :35 left but Benedictine hit the last six free throws to seal the victory.
Woolf finished with a game high 19 points. Blaszczyk notched 18 points.
John Dodson also reached double figures with 10 points, distributing six assists. Benedictine finished the game shooting over 50 percent and held a 31-30 edge on the glass.
Benedictine (12-11, 10-8) hosts Lakeland on Saturday afternoon.
