This week, the Benedictine University men's basketball team will take on two of the top teams in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. BenU will host rival Aurora on
Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and will travel to MSOE for a
Saturday matchup at 2:00 p.m.
Saturday's matchup against Edgewood was postponed for BenU due to the snowstorm that hit the area, but BenU picked up a road win on Wednesday at Concordia-Chicago. The Eagles led for the entire second half and staved off many CUC runs to pull out the 81-78 win. Freshman guard
Michael Blaszczyk (12.4ppg, 5.5rpg) led the Eagles with 22 points in the contest.
The Eagles will host fourth-place
Aurora (13-7, 10-5) on Wednesday in one of the NACC's most storied rivalries. BenU gave last season's defending conference champions a great game back on December 5, falling at Thornton Gymnasium 75-74 after a last-second shot by
Tahron Harvey rimmed out. Blaszczyk and sophomore forward
Tim Reamer (6.1ppg, 2.9rpg) led the Eagles with 14 points apiece.
Since the 2002-2003 season, the Eagles are 12-17 against Aurora, but 8-5 when playing the Spartans in Lisle. The two programs have met in the past three NACC Tournaments and five NACC Tournaments since the conference was founded in 2006, with Aurora holding a 3-2 edge in those contests. Aurora has won the last four meetings between the schools, with BenU's last win over Aurora coming in the first round of the 2012 conference tournament.
Benedictine has another tough opponent to face on Saturday at
MSOE (16-4, 11-4). A 17-win team a season ago, the Raiders are on pace to beat that mark and currently sit in third place in the NACC. The Raiders have won seven out of the last eight games, with the only loss in that span coming at second-place Lakeland on January 22.
The Eagles squared off against MSOE on December 21, falling 59-56. BenU trailed by eight at halftime and by as many as 16 in the second half, but cut the lead to two with two minutes left to play. However, MSOE's Collin Seubert scored five points in the final 120 seconds to give the Raiders the win.
