On Friday, the Benedictine University tennis team defeated Aurora in the first round of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament. BenU won five sets to four over the Spartans and will face top-seeded Edgewood on Saturday in the Semifinals.
The Eagles, who are seeded fifth in the tournament, won three out of the six singles matches along with the top two doubles matches. In singles, Micah Goyao,
Kam Haifleigh, and
Anna Savio were all victorious, winning in the second, third, and fifth slots. Top doubles paring Maria Branda and
Bhavana Movva won 8-6, and the second pairing of Haifleigh and Goyao won convincingly 8-1.
BenU's matchup against Edgewood will take place at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. If the Eagles are victorious, the team will compete in the Championship match at 3:00 p.m. against the winner of Lakeland and Concordia-Wisconsin.
