The Benedictine University tennis team competed in two Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matches on Saturday. Benedictine (3-2, 3-2) defeated Marian University in the morning and fell to Edgewood College in the afternoon.
Against Marian, the Eagles won by a 9-0 margin. In the singles portion,
Feena Chirayath won 6-0, 6-0 in the fifth spot, and no other Eagle dropped more than one game in each set.
In doubles, the Eagles were also victorious in all three matchups. The third tandem of
Anna Savio and
Anna MacLachlan won 8-0, while
Andrea Goyao and
Kam Haifleigh took the first doubles set 8-1.
Edgewood was able to best Benu 8-1 in the afternoon, with BenU's lone victory coming courtesy of
Micah Goyao (6-2, 6-0) in the third singles match.
Andrea Goyao (5-7, 6-3, 12-0) and Chirayath (6-3, 1-6, 10-4) competed well in the first and fifth singles sets.
"The girls played really hard today," said Head Coach Johnathon Schmidt. "We played very well in the morning and then missed some opportunities in the afternoon. They team understands what they need to work on to get to the next level, and we are getting stronger and stronger heading into the thick of our conference schedule."
Tennis is back in action next Saturday, as the team will host NACC opponents Wisconsin Lutheran College and Alverno College at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and the Vaughan Athletic Center in Aurora, Illinois.
