The official beginning of the
Jordan Townsend era of Benedictine University men's basketball (Townsend had the interim tag removed on Saturday) opened with thunder as Benedictine knocked down St. Norbert 78-73 at home. An 11-0 run put Benedictine ahead by 16 points at 34-18 late in the first half. St. Norbert came back in the second, clawing within a single point, but could not overcome the counters from Benedictine. Four individuals accounted for much of the scoring.
Trevor Montiel posted 21 points,
Andrew Stokes 17 in a 12th straight game with double figures,
Nick Kosich and
Cullen Cosme both added 16. Benedictine held a 39-32 advantage on the glass in the matchup of the top two rebounding teams in the conference. Benedictine shot 46 percent in the game and hit 10 three-pointers.
