The Benedictine University men's basketball team made a fierce late second half comeback attempt but fell short in a 77-64 loss to No. 20 Widener in the finale of the Cruizin' Classic in Florida on Thursday afternoon.
Benedictine led for over 13 minutes of the contest, most of the first half. The team scored the first seven points of the contest and led until there were under four minutes left in the half. Widener used an early run in the second half to pull away, building a 23-point margin but Benedictine battled back to within 11 at 72-61 with just over two minutes left before falling short.
Benedictine shot just 29.4 percent from the field and was outrebounded 47-39. Three players scored in double figures led by
Drew Stokes, who netted 19.
Nick Howard and
Cullen Cosme both posted 12.
Benedictine (6-4) returns to action with a conference contest at Lakeland on December 28. The combined record of the four losses this season is 37-2.
