The Benedictine University tennis team enjoyed some great results on Saturday, winning both of its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matches. BenU moved to 5-2 on the season after defeating Wisconsin Lutheran College 7-2 in the morning and Alverno College 9-0 in the afternoon at the Aurora Vaughan Center.
Against Wisconsin Lutheran, the Eagles took four of the six singles matches, as
Andrea Goyao,
Kam Haifleigh,
Micah Goyao, and
Feena Chirayath were victorious in the first, second, third, and fifth matches. Benedictine also won all three doubles matches, with the third pairing of
Anna Savio and
Anna MacLachlan winning a convincing 8-3.
In the afternoon, Benedictine was able to win all nine matchups against Alverno.
Andrea Goyao won the closest matchup of the day in the singles competition with a 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 in the first slot. In doubles,
Micah Goyao and Chirayath took the second match by a 8-2 score, BenU's most lopsided victory of the day.
"This is the best I've seen our team play together," said Head Coach
Jonathon Schmidt. "Our team continues to get stronger and stronger each match, and I believe we can really preform well against the top teams in our conference."
With the two victories, the Eagles now sit in third place in the NACC, trailing unbeatens Edgewood College and Concordia University Wisconsin and holding the tiebreaker over 5-2 Dominican University. BenU will now be off for 11 days, as the team's next matchup is not until Wednesday, September 24 against Concordia University Chicago.
