For the second straight season, the Benedictine University tennis team is heading to the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament. The Eagles clinched a spot with today's victory over Concordia University Chicago, defeating the Cougars 8-1 at the Aurora Vaughan Center.
Benedictine did most of its damage in the singles portion of the match, winning all six matchups.
Micah Goyao, who won in the third spot (6-3, 6-1), is now 8-0 in singles matches on the season. In doubles, the duos of
Kam Haifleigh and
Andrea Goyao (first spot) and
Anna Savio and
Anna MacLachlan (third spot) were victorious.Â
"Tonight was an important match for the girls," said Head Coach
Jonathon Schmidt, who has now advanced to the NACC Tournament in each of his two seasons with BenU. "It shows that we have the determination moving forward in our conference season, as we are continuing to build on our recent success."
At 6-2 on the season, the Eagles stand in a tie for third place with Dominican in the NACC standings and are one of four teams to clinch a spot in the NACC Tournament. Benedictine plays next on Friday at 4:00 p.m. against Aurora at the Aurora Vaughan Center. Benedictine will be the visiting team.
