On Wednesday night, the Benedictine University tennis team traveled to nearby River Forest to take on Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference foe Dominican University. The Eagles (2-1, 2-1 NACC) were victorious, defeating the Stars (2-2, 2-1 NACC) by a score of 7-2.
Benedictine performed well in both the singles and doubles competitions. In singles, the Eagles won five of the six matches, as
Andrea Goyao,
Kam Haifleigh,
Micah Goyao,
Feena Chirayath, and
Anna MacLachlan all came away victorious. Both Andrea and
Micah Goyao won with a 6-1, 6-0 score, while MacLachlan was able to come away with a win in a hard-fought 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 match.
In doubles, Benedictine was able to come away with two of the three matchups. In the first doubles match, the tandem of Haifleigh and
Andrea Goyao earned an 8-5 win. Also, Chirayath and
Micah Goyao came away with an 8-4 win in the second match.
"Our team was able to dictate the tone of this match from start to finish, and I am very proud of the way we played," said Head Coach
Jonathon Schmidt. "It was good to see the team show a sense of urgency this early in our season, and we look to continue this in our NACC matches this weekend."
Tennis will be busy over the next three days, as an exhibition match and two NACC conference matches are on the schedule. Benedictine will travel to Moraine Valley Community College for an exhibition tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. before traveling to Wisconsin for NACC matches at Marian University (10:00 a.m.) and Edgewood College (2:00 p.m.) on Saturday.Â
