Mike Suglich put together one of the best seasons in program history in 1982. Suglich batted .464, scored 48 runs and tallied 65 hits. The 65 hits were a school record that held until 1997 and now ranks in a tie for eighth all-time since the season has expanded. The 1982 team was one of the toughest to strike out in program history, posting a 7.2 strikeout-at bat ratio. The team also drew 234 walks, fourth most in single season history. Suglich in fact ranks second in career history in fewest strikeout-at bat ratio, striking out only 14 times for a 19.8 ratio.

Playing under Hall of Fame coach John Ostrowski, Suglich was a member of the 1980 team that played in the NCAA Tournament. Baseball was only part of the memories for Suglich, who met his wife, Colleen, while both were in school.

"I remember former major leaguers Chet Lemon, Eric Soderholm and Jimmy Piersall working out with us and helping in practice too," Suglich said. "That was cool. My fondest memory though was meeting my beautiful wife, Colleen. Thirty-three years and three beautiful children later, we remain Benedictine sweethearts."

Suglich has partnered with several former classmates in his professional endeavors, recently retiring as a senior partner in the technology service area at Sikich LLP, a national CPA, Technology and Advisory Firm based out of Naperville. Some of his clients included Arthur Andersen and Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Studios.

Suglich remains connected to Benedictine, regularly attending events and contributing to athletics.
